Atish Prosad Mondal is a third-generation teacher. Born in 1970, he completed his Masters in Commerce from the University of Calcutta. He is teaching in the Department of Commerce of St. Xaviers College (Autonomous) Kolkata since 1998 as a full-time faculty in the substantive post. He worked as guest faculty in a number of colleges and management institutes. He has been awarded PhD degree by the University of Calcutta in 2009 on the topic “A Study of Ecotourism in the Sunderbans of West Bengal”. UGC has granted him a funded research project to work on a master plan to develop the tourism prospects of the Sunderbans region which has been completed by him in 2008. He is an honorary Captain of the Indian army as he looks after the NCC of the college apart from his teaching assignment. In July 2010 he led the directorate of West Bengal and Sikkim to the special national integration camp (SNIC) at Srinagar (J&K) and was awarded as “Most Enterprising ANO” by the Additional Director General (A) of NCC. He has been appointed as the secretary of the Board of Trustees of St. Xaviers College Provident Fund [An Exempted fund u/s 17(1) of the EPF Act 1952] w.e.f 21.04.2006 for a term of five years and re-appointed for another two terms. He had been a member of the Indian delegation to Pakistan in 2005. He has been invited to a number of international conferences abroad to deliver on tourism and business issues. He has written a number of articles on tourism and taxation issues in various journals.
